Empower Chiropractic & Acupuncture

Sports Performance

We work with recreational and competitive athletes throughout Southern and Central Maine to optimize their performance.   From Powerlifters, Body Builders, and Cross Fit athletes to Swimmers, Marathoners and Tri-Athletes, we tailor our treatments to the demands your sport places on your body. Each athlete's unique movement patterns are considered to identify areas of joint dysfunction and muscular tension. Our treatments are comprehensive, incorporating a combination of soft tissue mobilization and joint manipulations, as well as  stretching, stabilizing, and strengthening exercises to keep you doing what you love, pain-free.

We will empower you with a better understanding of your biomechanics and ability to care for yourself, whether you are trying to manage your pain, prevent an injury, or come back from a current one.

Services

biomechanic movement    assessments

Aggravating and alleviating movement patterns are identified to help diagnose areas requiring treatment. For athletes, this analysis can include common repetitive motions from their sport with or without use of our in-house power rack.

manual assisted soft tissue mobilization

MSTM is applied to muscles and surrounding fascia, ligaments, and tendons to restore ranges of motion, and reduce inflammation. Techniques can involve ischemic compression, assisted stretching and trigger point activation.

Instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization

One of the most evidence-based and sought out therapies by high level athletes, IASTM uses a stainless steel tool to break up scar tissue (intramuscular adhesions), restore range of motion, improve circulation, and decrease pain.

JOINT MOBILIZATION

A quick, gentle force is applied to restricted joints to restore movement. We believe in treating surrounding structures that determine a joint's mobility, so also perform muscle work to provide a holistic treatment.

PATIENT EDUCATION EXERCISES

Patients are given specific stretches, strengthening, and stabilizing exercises to empower them with the knowledge to care for themselves in all stages of injury prevention, pain management, and rehabilitation.

NEUROMUSCULAR PERCUSSIon

Featuring the HYPERVOLT, this tool and technique is applied over large areas of soft tissue to invigorate circulation and reduce tension. For atheltes, this therapy primes muscles for pain-free performance.
